Creating calmer dogs
Learn how to communicate with your dog and build a healthier relationship.
First Instinct Dog Training
A well adjusted dog,
not just “well trained”.
What is the difference between a Well Adjusted Dog vs just a “trained” dog?
You may be here because you have a dog that knows tricks and commands, has been through many obedience classes, and despite all of this- cannot handle seeing other dogs, is full of anxiety, and cannot “calm down”.
Here lies the nuance that often gets overlooked. A “trained” dog has been trained to do anything and everything besides the biggest trick of them all: To be calm.
A Well Adjusted Dog is a dog that lives in a calmer state of mind.
When a dog is in a calm state of mind, they are able to navigate new situations through a realistic lens, stay neutral in the face of new stimuli, and have higher resilience to unpredictable circumstances.
Let me introduce you to:
Dog psychology
How to read body language (even yours)
How miscommunication happens
Lifestyle, not training
And how to bridge the gap between the Human and the Dog.
The Dog as an individual
Behavioral issues are symptoms to a deeper problem.
It would be disingenuous of me to tell you to slap a band-aid over a fractured bone. Likewise, I am not going to tell you to throw treats at your dog whenever they get reactive. Instead…
I work closely with humans and their dogs to identify the root causes of the behavior and develop a customized plan that addresses those issues. We focus on techniques to build trust and confidence in the dog, while also setting clear boundaries and expectations for behavior.
What sets First Instinct apart from the rest is my dedication to long-term results. I don't just teach dogs to respond to commands in the moment; I help dogs develop new habits and behaviors that will stick with them for a lifetime. I also work closely with the owners to ensure that they have the knowledge and tools they need to continue fostering a healthy relationship with their dog long after the sessions have ended.
Every dog is unique, and by the same token, every person is unique. Getting to know you, how you learn best, and what you need in order to feel supported is all part of helping your dog.
